Richard E
Brown, Jr.
July 20, 1929 – August 12, 2021
Early Thursday morning on August 12, 2021, Richard went peacefully home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was the husband of the late Josie Mae Jackson Brown who went home to glory on February 11, 1974. Upon his wife's death, Richard was left to care for his 10 children.
Richard Brown, also called "Junior" or "Dicky" was born on July 20, 1929, in Stow Creek Township to the late Priscilla G Brown and the late Richard D. Moore.
Richard attended the Bridgeton School System and joined the United States Army in 1953. He proudly served his country and would become a Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1955.
Richard spent his lifetime working and maintaining a home for his family. He was a truck driver for Sheppard's Farm and Jagger Farms and would haul produce up and down the East Coast and throughout the Mid-West. Richard stayed closer to home after his wife's death and worked at Ritters, Hunts & Wesson, and retired from Clement Pappas at 62 in 1992. He volunteered as a counselor for AA support groups. He worked weekends at the Stow Creek-Hopewell Convenience Center for several years before he became ill in 2014.
Richard was a family man and cared for his children with the fierceness of a Father Lion. He was gentle and kind; but could be a formidable opponent when it came to his children. When he was younger, he could be found playing softball, basketball and participating in foot races with his children. He loved to cook, BBQ, travel and spend time with his family. Mr. Brown would give you anything he had. He loved to tell jokes and his sense of humor was contagious. He was a great conversationalist and was known throughout Cumberland County. A sharp dresser, Richard, could be seen sporting a fedora or his various caps.
Richard joins his wife Josie Mae mother, Priscilla, his father, Richard, his brothers, Donald, Joseph, George, and Gary Moore, his sister, Doris Moore and a brother- in-law Edmond Mills in eternity.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Sharon, Richard (Mirella), Wanda (Freddy), Kendall (Valerie), Roderick (Alberta), Joseph Brown, Priscilla (Clentsell), John Brown, Sarah Brown, Zandra Brown, Sandra Newman, Jaime Newman; 28 grandchildren, 30.5 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; sisters Ida B Mills, Deborah Oglesby (Jerry), Vada Moore, brother Richard R. Moore (Virginia) numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
