Roger F. Washington know as Fred, departed this life Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Our Lady’s Center for Rehabilitation and Health Care in Atlantic County after a lengthy illness.
Roger was born December 21, 1939 to the late Robert M. Washington and Marie E. Bowles Washington of Virginia.
He received his education in the Salem School District, and he later joined the United States Air Force and completed his service with an honorable discharge.
His places of employment were Mannington Mills, Owens Illinois, Scott Paper Company and he worked at an airport in California.
Roger met the love of his life the late Ida (Ikey) Joanne Pernell, and from this union he had one son Roger E. Washington. Roger was a loving husband and a caring father. He was mild mannered, more of a listener than a talker. He was easy going and would usually meet you with a smile. He had a kind heart and he didn’t like confusion; he was a man of peace. He was always willing to receive prayer and listen in on conversations about the Lord.
Roger enjoyed repairing cars, crabbing, fishing and he would at times take his grill with him clean the fish, cook and eat them at the river bank. His favorite sports team was the Philadelphia Eagles.
He leaves to cherish his memory one son Roger who was sensitive and attentive to his father’s needs, one daughter in law Alexa Casiano, four grandchildren; Rajai Washington (Cindi), Roger Washington (Jacqueline), Rashawn Washington (Haley), Ry-el Washington and Katherine Romero, one grand daughter Audria J. Washington, four great grandchildren; Elijah, Genesis, Shyla, Gianna, three brothers; Robert, Bobby Washington (Mary), Sylvester Washington (Charlotte), Kenneth Washington (Leona), one sister Iris Gross, a long time friend Jerry Foreman, three brothers-in-law; Thurston Howard (Turk), Lawrence Pernell (Louise), Noble, Wayne, Wainwright (Lorraine), five sisters-in-law, Elder Catherine Pernell, Elder Arlene Holden, Mrs. Pearl Moore, Mrs. Geneva Holmes, Mittie Williams, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by two brothers; Steven Washington, Greg Washington, five sisters; Ann Washington, Betty Brooks, Beverly Howard, Mildred Comer and Renee Washington.
