Samuel Irvington
Soil, Jr.
October 1, 1953 – April 7, 2021
On April 7, 2021, Samuel Irvington Soil, Jr. peacefully and victoriously transitioned from labor to reward. Samuel (Sammy) was born in Millville, NJ on October 1, 1953. He was the first of four children born to the late Saint Bessie Doreen Soil and Samuel Irvington Soil, Sr. of Millville, NJ.
Sammy received his education in the Millville Public School system in Cumberland County. As a young man, Sammy displayed a strong independent mindset and spirit. He championed black rights, supported the advancement of black independence, and actively spoke out against the iniquitous Apartheid system and regime in South Africa. Sammy was known to wear dashikis of many lengths and African apparel displaying the colors of red, black, and green.
RED: the blood that unites all people of African ancestry and shed for liberation.
BLACK: for the people who exist as a nation.
GREEN: for the abundant and vibrant natural wealth of Africa, the MOTHERLAND!
Sammy proudly joined the US Air Force in the early 1970's during the Vietnam War. After his departure from the Air Force, he was employed at Ocean One Mall, Atlantic City, NJ for decades. Later, he was employed with Walmart (Lawn and Garden), Millville, NJ for 17 years. In his past time, he enjoyed watching football, basketball, baseball, movies, CNN, singing and eating. He was a staunch Philadelphia EAGLES fan. Sammy loved life, his black brothers and sisters, horses, and fishing. Most of all he loved his family and friends.
Sammy is preceded in death by his brother James McKinley Soil.
He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Karriem Soil; two sisters, Amanda "Mandy" Soil-Adams of Salisbury, MD and Vanessa Soil-Lindsey (Ernie) of Clementon, NJ; a loving and devoted companion, Shirley Lamb; one niece, Shakeya Ann Soil of Washington, DC; two nephews, Dorian McKinley Soil of Baltimore, MD and Robert Abraham Soil of Millville, NJ; stepdaughter, Diesha Lamb of Cherry Hill; stepson, Calvin Lamb of Washington, DC; three step grandchildren, Jasmine, Nacovin Jr., and Dolin Norman of Cherry Hill, NJ and a host of cousins and friends. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Always In Our Hearts!
