Sgt. Latoya
S. Sotomayor
August 3, 1987 – November 1, 2023
Latoya Sabrina Sotomayor, 36, of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey departed this
life suddenly on November 1, 2023. She was born at the Atlantic City Medical
Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey on August 3, 1987 to Laura and Martin
Sotomayor.
Latoya, affectionately known by her family and friends as "Toya'", was educated in
the Vineland, New Jersey and Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey school systems
Latoya graduated from Egg Harbor Township High School. Latoya went on to
earn her Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies from Thomas Edison State
University.
Latoya pursued a career in the medical field before enlisting into the New Jersey
Army National Guard on January 28, 2010. Latoya achieved the rank Sergeant
First Class as a Senior Human Resources Non-Commissioned Officer. She
attended numerous military educational courses including completion of the Senior
Leaders Course and the Equal Opportunity Advisor Course at Defense Equal
Opportunity Management Institute. Latoya's specialty was in the field of Human
Resources Management.
To all who knew Latoya, they had the privilege of meeting a caring, affectionate
and compassionate lady. She was always helping others, which was demonstrated
by the many missionary trips she attended in the Dominican Republic. Latoya
often donated clothing and food to locally unhoused individuals
Latoya worked extremely hard but also found the time to travel with her family,
especially her sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. She lived life to the fullest.
Latoya will be deeply missed by all as she was truly one of kind.
Latoya leaves to cherish her parents Laura and Martin Sotomayor, grandmothers
Esther Sotomayor and Elizabeth Christian, sisters Shaneha Sotomayor, Shaunte
(Juan) Sotomayor and Amanda Sotomayor, nieces and nephews Martin and Kayla
Sotomayor, Christian and Emery Harvard and Vaughn Lamb, aunts Ivette
(Heriberto) Jimenez and Quetcy (Jose) Andrion, godmother Sheila (Keith) Hinton-
Hayes, a host of cousins, her best friends Sharyce (Brian) Hayes-Jones, Angel
(Jaron) Jennings, Stephanie Ripa, and special friend Luis DeLeon and many dear
friends too numerous to mention.
