Shirley Joyce Pierce age 91, passed away on September 1, 2023 peacefully. She was the last of five
children born to the late James W. and Anna L. Coleman.
Joyce attended the Woodbury Public School system and graduated from WHS in 1949. She obtained a year certificate from Camden Commercial Secretarial College in Camden, NJ. She later married Jack Pierce on September 20, 1952 and from that union had five children. The next 20 years she worked for the US Signal Corps in Philadelphia, but retired when the facility moved to Ft. Monmouth, NJ.
Shirley J. was then employed by Glassboro State College, now Rowan Univ. in the Bursar's Office for 12 years and retiring from the Rec Center after 13 of the best years ever! She said: "I've lived an ordinary life, and was fortunate to have some extraordinary friends", loving and caring children.
Joyce was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church at age 14 under the Pastor ship of Rev. E.M. Smith. In 2006, she joined FBCJ under Pastor Claybon Bogan serving as a Sr. Usher.
She was predeceased by her daughter Toni J. Kersey (Alvin), her brother Kenneth R. Coleman, Muriel G. Talbert (Jerri) and Jeanne A. Frisbey.
She leaves to cherish and not mourn, her husband Jack, sons Kenneth "Stevie" (Sue), Jeffrey "Merk" (Margaret), Jacque "Teenie", Jack W., an Olympic bronze medalist (Marva), Nicole(Pill) and one sister, Janet M. Irby, Son-in-law Alvin E. Kersey.
So many grandchildren, great grands and great, great
grands all of whom I loved dearly and was loved back in return.
"That's it, I quit, I'm moving on"!
