January 15, 1925 – December 6, 2024
Vermon Bernice Demby was born on January 15, 1925, in Smyrna, Delaware and was called Ms. Verma by most people. She passed away quietly surrounded by her family at Mannington Hospital on December 6, 2024.
Vermon attended schools in White Oak, Raymond's Neck and Smyrna, Delaware. After school, Vermon worked as a housekeeper and cook for various families including the farm of Bill and Betty Snow. While working on Bill and Betty Snow farm she met and married George T. Hill.
In 1946, George and Vermon moved to New Jersey. This union was blessed with eight children, twenty-six grandchildren, sixty-five great grandchildren and thirty-four great great-grandchildren.
Vermon loved to cook and raise flowers inside and outside her home. She was a great cook who was well known for her biscuits and her love of helping others. In 1980, George and Vermon joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Vermon loved the church and doing the Lord's work. She loved gospel music, often singing with the gospel choir, Bates Singers and Mass Choir every chance she could. She also loved reading Psalms 46 and 23. She was loved by all.
She was predeceased by her husband, George T. Hill; son, John M. Hill, daughter, Joyce A. Hope, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
