Verna L.(White) Laster answered the master's call on February 14, 2022. Verna was born July 10, 1927, in Greenville, North Carolina to the late John and Viola Sumrell White. Verna was educated in the Bridgeton Public School System. She was married to the late Mozel Laster for which five children were born to this union. Verna was an excellent cook and enjoyed fellowship with her family and friends. She also loved knitting, jewelry making, and reading poetry by Ruby Dee. She retired from the Bridgeton Nursing Home after 20 years of service.

Verna accepted Christ at an early age. She was the oldest living church member at Greater Saint Augustine AME Zion Church in Bridgeton, NJ. She served on the Usher Board, Community Ushers, Missionary Kindness, Cancer Society in Cumberland County and Lockary Foreign Missions.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters: Carolyn Harvey of Oakland, CA, Gloria (Jimmie) Howard of Somerset, NJ, her treasured joy, Azhine Hill, siblings Dr. Viola White Holden, Rev. Edward White (Parthenia) Joseph White (Deloris) 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Ophelia Laster and Carol Laster, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, Jeanetta Clark and Alex Conway.

She was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Mozel, her three beloved sons: James, Alvin and Dexter Laster and 14 siblings; Hurley White Bush, Claude White Sr., Steve White, John White Jr., William Robert White, Elbert Lee Sr., Nathaniel White, Selma Whitehurst, David Whitehurst, James Whitehurst, Bobbie Whitehurst, Lizzie Mae James, Verna Mae Whitehurst and Rosa Lee Lloyd Scott.
