Viola Neblett's Obituary

Viola Neblett (nee: Bell) was born to the late Abe Oscar and Leora (Hurst) Bell on June 14, 1929, in Glassboro, NJ.  She peacefully closed her eyes and was escorted to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2023.

Viola, known affectionately to friends and family as "Vi" or "Aunt Vi", was educated in the Glassboro Public School System and graduated with the class of 1948. She had many fond memories of her elementary school attendance in "Elsmere" and recalled stories her siblings told her about attending school at Emmanuel Baptist Church before the school was built. You would often hear her talk of the teachers at Elsmere, especially Mr. Philips, and Ms. Turner and she even attended her 55 th and 58 th year High School Reunions.

Shortly after high school, Vi married the love of her life, Solomon David Neblett, on December 11, 1953. By the grace and guidance of God, the two lived a happily ever after dream until Solomon's passing in 1992.  From their union two children were born.  Viola was employed by Owens Illinois Company (aka Anchor Hocking Company) in Glassboro, NJ, handling many tasks and job titles such as supervisor from the early 1950's through to her retirement in 1992.

Having been baptized at a very early age, Vi was always dedicated and active in church. Vi and Sol joined St. Paul's Baptist Church, in Clayton, NJ where she served on numerous ministries, including Sunday School Teacher, Mother's Board, Choir, Pastor's Aide, Missionary, Deaconess Board, and Secretary, just to name a few. Her love for the Lord and her church family were paramount in her life, as shown in her consistent efforts to not only study the Bible but spreading the Lord's word to others.

Many words can describe Vi, family matriarch, Glassboro Elsmere historian, jovial, passionate, outgoing, loving, caring, empathetic, giving, kind, but most of all she was a child of God, always abounding in His word.

Viola was a dedicated long-term member of the Eastern Stars, Greenland Lodge Chapter 32, where she held several seats within the chapter, including the highest of Worthy Matron in 1966 and 1967. Vi also contributed many years in the NAACP, The Gloucester Community Choir, Glee Club, Mass Choir, tutoring with her sister Mayme at the Glassboro Public Library, as well as having many roles in several other community groups, and organizations in the State of New Jersey.

Viola was preceded in death by her siblings, Refes Bell, Mayme Footman, George Bell, james (Buster Bell) and Carolyn Floyd. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Solomon, and her son, Solomon Neblett, Jr. (Butch).

Viola leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Susan Neblett; grandson, Randall Neblett; granddaughters, Angela and Jacqueline Neblett; daughter-in-law, Annette Neblett; four great great-grandchildren, Bry'Anna, De'Maya, Randall Jr, and Angelo Neblett; sister, Dorothy Brown; Goddaughter, Hilda Jackson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
